Exmouth Bound Soundtrack (Part 9)

EXMOUTH BOUND SOUNDTRACK (Part 9)

Up and down the Avocet rail line, in and out of Exmouth, day in day out. And sometimes when we finish late at work our reward on our way home is the sight of the sun going down in what can only be described as a brilliantly beautiful blaze of glory...

And though we might realize it's not actually the sun "going down" but rather an illusion caused by the world spinning round, it doesn't detract any from the wonder of it all...

Exmouth Bound Soundtrack (Part 8)

EXMOUTH BOUND SOUNDTRACK (Part 8)

Don't you want to know how we keep starting fires?

Up and down the Avocet rail line, in and out of Exmouth, day in day out. And sometimes on a morning on the outbound train - I kid you not - the atmosphere is electric. You could cut it with a knife.

The coaches can practically throb with barely-disguised and barely-contained lust, desire and psychosexual tension. No-one really wants to talk about it or advertise the fact as the train can get busy enough as it is without the world and its mother descending upon Exmouth to experience the delights of the morning rush hour but... the lingering looks, the furtive glances, the double entendres, the knowing smiles, the pursing of lips, the greasepaint and the powder, the sound of leather on willow, the danger, the high voltage...
It's palpable.

Up and down the Avocet rail line, in and out of Exmouth, day in day out...

Exmouth Bound Soundtrack (Part 7)

EXMOUTH BOUND SOUNDTRACK (Part 7)

Up and down the Avocet rail line, in and out of Exmouth, day in day out. And sometimes when we stare out the windows at the world going by outside, we can with very little effort fall into a day-dream.

Our day-dreams, of course, will be all very different but for me, my memory is sometimes cast back to when I was child. Back to a world that was very, very different to the one we're in now...

Back to when as a child I could walk on the ceiling and butterfly up on the wall...

Exmouth Bound Soundtrack (Part 6)

EXMOUTH BOUND SOUNDTRACK (Part 6)

Up and down the Avocet rail line, in and out of Exmouth, day in day out. But it's not all fun and games, reading books, listening to music and generally Zenning out. Sometimes, in fact, it's all just one big fucking blur...

Exmouth Bound Soundtrack (Part 5)

EXMOUTH BOUND SOUNDTRACK (Part 5)

Up and down the Avocet rail line, in and out of Exmouth, day in day out. And don't you find sometimes when you're staring out the window listening to your music on your iPhone that it's all you can do to not just stand up and start dancing and singing in soprano...
"We can fight our desires but when we start making fires..."

Or is that just me?
"I'm going in for the kill, I'm doing it for a thrill. I'm hoping you'll understand, and not let go of my hand..."

Exmouth Bound Soundtrack (Part 4)

EXMOUTH BOUND SOUNDTRACK (Part 4)

Up and down the Avocet rail line, in and out of Exmouth, day in day out... But it's not a chore, it's not a grind - it's a pleasure. It's time out. It's a beautiful view...

It's a time to relax. Kick back. Time to think, to read, to listen to music. To feed your head...

Exmouth Bound Soundtrack (Part 3)

EXMOUTH BOUND SOUNDTRACK (Part 3)

Up and down the Avocet rail line, in and out of Exmouth, day in day out. For many of us it's the chosen mode of transport as it's relatively cheap, it's quick, and it's relatively efficient. It also affords us the luxury of just gazing out the train windows at the world passing by outside.

It affords us the luxury of reading our books or of listening to music on our iPhones without any distractions. It affords us a moment to daydream, to gather our thoughts, and to ponder life...

Exmouth Bound Soundtrack (Part 2)

EXMOUTH BOUND SOUNDTRACK (Part 2)

We travel up and down the Avocet rail line, in and out of Exmouth. Day in and day out, reading our books or gazing out the train windows with our iPhones providing the soundtrack to the world passing by outside.

And when we sometimes turn to look around at our fellow passengers, anyone might think we were all in worlds of our own. Set back from one and other, distant and atomised. In altered states, beatific, elegiac, stoned immaculate...

Anyone might think we were all out of our brains on cocktails of  drugs....

Exmouth Bound Soundtrack (Part 1)

EXMOUTH BOUND SOUNDTRACK (Part 1)

Exmouth marks the western end of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site and is serviced by First Great Western Railway. It's the last station stop on what is called the Avocet Line and by train, you can go no further. Exmouth is the end of the line and in more ways than one...

Travelling up and down this line almost every day of the week, we read our books or we all gaze out the windows, our iPhones providing the soundtrack to the world passing by outside...
